Small Business Saturday is designed to bring holiday shoppers to local brick and mortar stores. Over 90% of small business owners contribute each year to their communities through volunteering, in-kind contribution, and/or direct cash donations to local organizations. We need to support them throughout the year! Experience our downtown with its unique shops and selection of restaurants. You will find the perfect gift for all those on your holiday shopping list and you won’t have to fight the mall crowd. Parking is convenient in the free 4 hour covered parking garages located on Church Street and Lake Street.
Studies show that buying from an independent, locally owned business – rather than a nationally owned business – benefits the community on many levels.
Boosts the economy – Buying local supports the local economy, because local business owners spend significantly more with local service providers, continuing to strengthen the economic base of the community.
Contributes to local character – Our one-of-a-kind businesses are an integral part of the distinctive character of Libertyville.
Increases local sourcing – Locally owned businesses can make more local purchases requiring less transportation and generally set up shop in town or city centers as opposed to developing on the fringe. This generally means contributing less to sprawl, congestion, habitat loss and pollution.
Creates more jobs – Local businesses are the largest employer nationally and provide the most jobs to residents.
Offers better customer service – Local businesses often hire people with a better understanding of the products they are selling and take more time to get to know customers.
Are more invested in the community – Local businesses are owned by people who live in this community, are less likely to leave, and are more invested in the community’s future.
Contributes to non-profits – Non-profit organizations receive an average 250% more support from smaller business owners than they do from large businesses.
Creates competition – A marketplace of tens of thousands of small businesses is the best way to ensure innovation and low prices over the long-term. A multitude of small businesses, each selecting products based not on a national sales plan but on their own interests and the needs of their local customers, guarantees a much broader range of product choices.
Libertyville’s Small Business Saturday Holiday Shopping Tour event will feature a shopping “passport” that will help leverage the strength of Libertyville’s MainStreet business community by cross promoting various store events and shopping incentives. The passport is designed to create additional traffic by giving shoppers incentives to visit each store, make a purchase and have their passports stamped. Stamped passports may be entered into raffle drawings held at each store at the end of the day for a chance to win raffle prizes. Winners will be contacted the following week.
