Golf Outing Supports 60048

golf outingAlthough dark rainy skies threatened the success of the MainStreet 8th annual golf outing the morning of June 24, by tee off, the weather was perfect! For the fifth year in a row, the sellout crowd of golfers enjoyed a day of fun contests on the course including a spirited hula hoop challenge, a pseudo BlackHawks game using golf clubs, an introduction to “Dr. Bones” and opting for a massage to loosen up your swing (now that’s the way to play golf!).  Known as one of the most fun golf outings in Lake County, the idea was presented by Bill Hume in 2005.  Bill stated, “the growth of the event and the reception by the community has been overwhelming. We have exceeded our financial goals every year for this event. It is hard to believe that we can have so much fun while raising money for MainStreet!”

For many years the MainStreet organization was dependent on one fundraiser per year, the Oktoberfest/Street Dance.  The decision was made by the MainStreet Board of Directors to diversify the challenge of raising funds through only one event and felt it was time to garner participation from various sources.  They gladly accepted Bill’s offer.

For the past several years, Bill, John and Ginny DeReu and their hardworking committee strive  to build on its success in terms of raising funds for MainStreet which is evident from the enthusiastic response from the participants.   In fact, many attendees and sponsors, such as Libertyville Bank and Trust and Mickey Finn’s  have been annual sponsors since its beginning.  This year’s sponsors also included BMO Harris Bank, Advocate Condell Medical Center, Allstate Phoenix Insurance, Sedrik Newbern, Guaranteed Rate Mortgage Lending, Liberty Auto City, Lake Shore Harley Davidson, North Shore Pro Active Health, Sign-A-Rama, Studio 59, Libertyville Golf Course, Sunset Foods, Toptec Heating/Cooling/Plumbing/Electrical, Inc. and Unique Indoor Comfort.   We also thank  Chris McConnell,  golf pro for the Village of Libertyville who graciously gave of his time and expertise that day.
